About Our School..

St Peter Chanel is a Catholic School founded over fifty years ago as a response to the needs of the Green Island Parish. The Gospel values of love, respect for others, compassion and forgiveness are central and integrated into the daily life of the school. Pupils are encouraged to be independent learners and to take personal responsibility.

	St Peter Chanel is a pupil centered school, with a highly skilled staff who are committed to the total development of each student in a positive, stimulating environment. St Peter Chanel has four well equipped classrooms, fully resourced with the latest materials which ensures our education is of a high quality. The School is rated Decile 6. The pupils of the school are generally drawn from the surrounding area - Green Island, Abbotsford, Waldronville, Ocean View, Brighton and Fairfield.
We have a modern well equipped adventure playground which is easily maintained and encourages child participation. Our Year 6 children assume the role of Family Group leaders for their final year at school and provide support for a group of children throughout the year. One of their first tasks is to review the school Code of Conduct which is the document we all use to ensure our school is a safe and happy place to be.
	The pupils have cultural and sporting contacts with other schools. School teams compete in T-Ball and netball on Saturday mornings and mini basketball and touch after school hours. We have sports days with both the schools in the Greater Green Island areas, and other Dunedin Catholic Schools.
Parents are welcomed to share their skills and are regularly involved in Catholic Character celebrations, social and cultural events, open days, sports, outdoor education, etc. We are fortunate to have a Board of Trustees who work untiringly for the welfare of the pupils. The Board is ably assisted, especially in the fundraising and social areas, by the 'Parents & Friends Committee of the school.
